Kaiserslautern
Kaiserslautern is one destination that offers a huge variety of activities for its visitors. Set the middle of the Palatinate biosphere reserve. the forest is Germany's largest and Kaiserslautern's main tourist attraction which offers excellent trails for hiking enthusiasts straight from the city. Other than the grand old trees the forest boasts, ruins of the castle of Emperor Barbarossa (or Kaiser in German) can still be seen in front of the Rathaus (City Hall).
WIne is another attraction in Kaiserslautern. Set in the Rheinland-Pfalz region, there are a number of wine festivals in nearby villages every weekend from the last Sunday in August when (Wine Route Day) is celebrated. Other events include the Bad Durkheim Sausage Festival in September and Grape Harvest Festival in October. From April to October the city also hosts the Kaiserslautern World Garden Show.
Kaiserslautern is home to some 40,000 US military, and students from around Germany who attend University in the city, making it a young and vibrant place, with a hearty nightlife too.
Getting there
Kaiserslautern is known as a drivers' paradise for its good network of roads and links thanks to its central location in southwest Germany.
It is located one hour from the Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) towards the northeast, one hour from the French border to the west,1.5 hours from Luxembourg and Belgium to the northeast, and five hours from Switzerland to the south.
By air
There are 3 airport options: Frankfurt (62 miles); Saarbrücken (37 miles) and Hahn (56 miles).
By rail
InterCityExpress and InterCity services run regularly to Kaiserslauthern.

By road
All main German cities are serviced by Eurlolines and tickets can be purchased at Deutsche Bahn (representative agents), which you'll find in main railway stations. If travelling by private car, you'll find information on the German motorway network at autobahn-online.de.

The most central place to find a room is Fifaworldcup.com. The majority of listed hotels are located close to the venue which will save you a lot of time on match day. Searching for the right place to stay is made simple for bookers - just name which team you are supporting and a list of hotels will appear for you to select in each city that they will play in.
The stadium
The Fritz Walter Stadium has a capacity of 48,500 seats. It is located on the Betzenberg mountain, and is named after the German 1954 World Cup captain. It is where 1st division club FC Kaiserslautern play.
Getting there : The stadium is a 5-minute walk from the main railway station.

If you don't get a ticket
If you don't get a ticket, join everybody else on the street. The "World Cup Mile" will stretch from Central Station via the Eisenbahnstrasse and Rummelstrasse to Stiftsplatz. A number of musical events will keep fans entertained in between matches, alongside other events from 2pm to midnight every day during the duration of the tournament.
